York County Literacy Council (YCLC)

York County Literacy provides classes for adults in York County, who are not able to read, write, perform basic math functions, speak and comprehend English. Instruction ranges from pre-literate to preparing to pass GED/HiSet® exam and for those seeking to earn their High School Equivalency credential in the state of Pennsylvania. Health literacy, computer literacy, financial literacy and workplace literacy are also taught in classes and through workshops.

York County Literacy Council trains volunteer tutors to provide one-to-one literacy tutoring to adult students. YCLC works with both native born and English as a Second Language Students.

We have GED classes to instruct students as they work to pass their GED/HISET exam. Beginning in May 2017, the York County Literacy Council extends its services to become the HiSET® High School Equivalency (paper-based) test site in York County. To register for testing or for more information about HiSET visit www.hiset.ets.org

It is estimated there are approximately 40,000 adults in York County who are functionally illiterate. YCLC services are free and confidential.  Read more about our programs here.
