2011 Buck A Book® Schedule of Events
Buck A Book® Week – January 17 to January 23, 2011
September – December 2010: YCLC contacts school district coordinators.
December – before holidays: YCLC volunteers prepare the envelopes for distribution.
By January 10- Materials delivered to schools via coordinators by YCLC volunteers.
Saturday- January 8th: KICK OFF -YCLC will hold our 9th Annual Buck A Book® Week Kick-Off at the York Galleria Mall. PARADE OF SCHOOL MASCOTS! Be sure to stop by for a free book giveaway, storytellers, VOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITE MASCOT and other activities. Mascot with the most votes will receive a prize bag of educational items.
Monday, January 10 – Friday, January 14: Teachers prepare students for Buck A Book® Week and distribute envelopes.
Monday, January 17 – Sunday, January 23th: Buck A Book® Week 2011. Ready, set, READ!
Tuesday, February 1st: Students return envelopes to teachers
Thurs. Feb. 3rd: Official collection day when envelopes will be picked up from the districts. Additional pick up for morning of Fri., Feb. 4th if necessary.
Spring 2011:
- Buck A Book® Week winners announced.
- Prizes distributed to winners.
- Assemblies for top schools.

Buck A Book® Game Night @
York Revolution -

Support YCLC and Enjoy a York Revolution Baseball Game!
In addition to Buck A Book® game night, Tuesday, May 18th was a YCLC Fundraiser at the ballgame. Thank you to everyone who participated and supported literacy. YCLC received a check for $1,528 from York Revolution!
Ore Valley Elementary School Honors Choir, directed by Susannah Cane sang the National Anthem. The singers are part of the larger 4th and 5th grade, 102 member Ore Valley Elementary Chorus. Mr. Greg Anderson is the Principal. Thanks Ore Valley!!



Aaron Scofield, from Leader Heights Elementary School, threw out the first pitch for the game. Aaron was the top fundraiser in York County. Thanks Aaron for a fantastic job and a great pitch!

Ore Valley Elementary School was the top fundraising school in York County. They raised $5,600 and read over 1,000 books. YCLC delivered 500 books to their school during a Victory Assembly with characters from the DreamWrights play "Rupert Meets Mrs. Tales". Ore Valley also received a trophy.

Early Learning Center, Inc. was the top per capita school in York County and they received 100 books. a trophy and a Victory Assembly with "Snoopy".

A total of 22 schools received 100 books in addition to the 500 books delivered to Ore Valley.
Buck A Book® Reading Program 2010
Kick Off @ Galleria Mall was held Saturday, January 9th, 2010 from 10AM to 2PM - Many, gently used books were given away, storytellers read to children and families, and the mascots visited with mall goers. The parade of school mascots was held and "Leo the Lion" from Red Lion District was voted the favorite mascot that day. Ronald McDonald, WSBA Newshound and Snoopy also greeted families. Picture People took pictures of the day. Buck A Book Kick-Off 2011 is, Saturday, January 8, 2011 from 10AM to 2PM.

Motivational Reading Program for school students and individuals.
Promote reading - build community service - support literacy - earn prizes!
York County students and individuals win prizes and help someone to learn to read by participating in Buck A Book ® Reading Program. Buck A Book® Readng Program is an annual YCLC fundraiser in its eighteenth year. Buck A Book® week is January 18-24 when students read books and seek pledges from family and friends.

Buck A Book ® 2010 Prizes
For raising $1.00 students earn a McDonald's Mighty Kid's Meal
For raising $25 students earn a Buck A Book Baseball Hat
For raising $50 students earn 2 lawn seating tickets to York Revolution and a Buck A Book/Revolution aluminum (go green) water jug
For raising $150 students earn an Apple iPod Shuffe and 4 tickets to the Recognition Event at Central High School Auditorium
For raising $250 students earn Hershey Park Passes (one adult and one child) AND 4 tickets to the Recognition Event at Central High School Auditorium. Students at this level will be recognized on stage.
Dreamwrights will present "Rupert Meets Mrs. Tales", a play about a packrat who does not like to read. His book report is due and when his mom leaves him at the library his adventure begins. He meets, Johnny Appleseed, Captain Hook, Cinderella, Dorothy, Peter Pan and others. This is an interactive play with the audience helping Ruppert to figure out who the characters are.
Prizes are cumulative!
Teachers earn:
- For Raising $100 in their classroom teachers receive 2 Lawn seating ticekts to York Revolution and 2 tickets to Recognition Event at Central High School
Schools Earn:
- Top Grossing School Countywide earns a school assembly & trophy & 500 Books
- Top Per Capita School County wide earns a school assembly & trophy
- Any School meeting a goal of 20% dollar growth receives 100 books for school library ($100 minimum)
- Schools participating for first time raising $500 receive 100 books for school library
School Assemblies
York County Literacy Council staff, along with "Snoopy", provided 22 assemblies for schools in York County. Ore Valley - Dallastown District, Leib & N. Salem -Dover District, Clearview & Hanover St. - Hanover District, Orendorf - Northeastern District, Macaluso & Mazie Gable - Red Lion District, Delta/Peach Bottom- South Eastern District, Paradise & Spring Grove Elementary (6 pods)- Spring Grove District, Lincolnway, Wallace & Trimmer- West York District, Hannah Penn & Devers- York City School District and the Homeschool Association received an assembly to motivate students to read and raise funds for literacy.
